The destiny of the Kannan Devan Tea Museum is inextricably linked to the long-standing past of tea in Munnar, which is a tour that leads to the early 19th century. The British at this time were well aware of the well suited climate, deep soil and great potential in the country and thus set up the first plantations in 1878. In 1897, the Kannan Devan Hills Production Company was born, and so started the era of large-scale cultivation of tea in the area.
