Where wilderness thrives and harmony resides

set amid the Western Ghats of Kerala, India, lies a sanctuary of unparalleled character and biodiversity: Periyar. Spanning over 925 square kilometres, this part of the country encompasses three distinct yet interconnected sanctuaries: Periyar National Park, Periyar Tiger Reserve, and Periyar Animal life Sanctuary. Each holds a distinct story of conservation, coexistence, and the relentless pursuit of harmony between man and nature.

Periyar's trip began in 1950 when Nellikkampatty Game Sanctuary was begun, laying the foundation for what would later become Periyar Animal life Sanctuary. Over the years, its importance in conserving the region's flora and fauna became evident, leading to its designation as a national park in 1982. In 1978, recognizing the urgent need to protect the endangered Bengal tiger, Periyar Tiger Reserve was begun within the sanctuary's boundaries.
