A maharaja’s vision

Standing stark among the rugged Aravalli hills, Siliserh Waterbody is a testament to the vision of Maharaja Vinay Singh of Alwar. In 1845, this far-sighted ruler raised an embankment on a tributary of the Ruparel River, creating this artificial waterbody. His purpose was clear: to provide water to the urban centre of Alwar. The aqueducts that surround the waterbody to this day bear witness to this noble endeavour.

Siliserh Waterbody is more than just water; it’s steeped in legends. Residents whisper tales of crocodiles lurking beneath its calm surface. Even at present, there are warning signs put up. The dense woodlands surrounding the waterbody harbour a deep biodiversity, including over 100 species of birds.
