Udaipur, the ‘Urban centre of Waters,’ boasts five shimmering gems, and Udai Sagar Waterbody is one you won't want to miss. Nestled around 13 kilometres east of the city's busy centre, Udai Sagar provides a quiet escape ideal for a relaxing weekend getaway.

Constructed in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh, the waterbody was a strategic marvel. A dam on the Berach River ensured a steady water supply for his kingdom. The waterbody even played a pivotal role in shaping Rajasthan's history. In 1573, on the shores of Udai Sagar, Maharana Pratap Singh famously refused to surrender to the Mughal emperor Akbar, a decision that sparked the storied Battle of Haldighati. Years later, the waterbody witnessed another victory as Maharana Raj Singh defeated Aurangzeb's army here.
