The sacred Arulmigu Kandaswamy Temple

Enter the enigmatic domain of Thiruporur, a age-old municipality located in the Kanchipuram part of the country. Set within a quiet environment, one may find the esteemed Arulmigu Kandaswamy Place of worship, which is devoted to the worship of Lord Murugan. Thiruporur is set on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, about 30 km away from Chennai. According to a legend, Murugan fought with demons in three different locations - in the sea at Tiruchendur, on land at Thirupparankundram, and in the air at Thiruporur. The town's name, Porur, is derived from the Tamil word 'por,' which means war.

The Arulmigu Kandaswamy Shrine is located at the base of the grand Pranava highland. Its origins may be traced back to the Pallava era. The inscriptions found within the shrine, date back to the 10th and 12th centuries. These inscriptions provide valuable insights into the historic background of the area.
