Chamunda Devi Temple

The 400-year-old abode of Shri Chamunda Devi

The reverberating sounds of the place of worship bells, the thunderous chants brimming with divine energy, the appealing showers of flower petals, and the courtyard buzzing with devotees—this is the memorable Chamunda Devi Shrine that welcomes you with open arms, fills your heart with endless joy, and leaves you with an indelible memory.

This 400-year-old place of worship, found in the lovely peaks of Palampur in Kangra district, is dedicated to Shri Chamunda Devi, a form of Goddess Durga. The word Chamunda is derived from two words, Chanda, and Munda. According to mythological legends, goddess Kali defeated two notorious demons, Chanda, and Munda, in a fierce battle at this location in ancient times. Consequently, the goddess is worshipped and regarded as Chamunda.
